Vonnie Erdmann, 68, of Denhoff, ND, died Wednesday, July 1, 2026, surrounded by family at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in McClusky. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at Holy Family Catholic Church in McClusky from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are with Hertz Funeral Homes of McClusky and Harvey. Burial will be in McClusky City Cemetery.

Vonnie was born on October 2, 1957, in Turtle Lake, ND. She was the only child of Herbert and Helen (Wanner) Grosz. Vonnie grew up and attended school in McClusky and graduated from McClusky High School in 1975. Vonnie married Steve Erdmann on October 4, 1975, in McClusky. They lived in the McClusky area for some time before moving to a farm near Denhoff. Vonnie and Steve had a daughter, Melissa, and a son, Dustin, whom she loved dearly.

Vonnie held a variety of positions, including bookkeeper, insurance salesperson, caterer, and legal secretary, working in McClusky and the surrounding areas. In 2004, Vonnie and some girlfriends purchased the Hi-Way Cafe in McClusky–where she had previously waitressed–and renamed it the Union Bar and Grill. It was at the Union Bar and Grill where she found her true passion: cooking wonderful food and serving the community. It filled her heart to serve delicious food like her mouthwatering potato salad, knephla soup, prime rib, strudels, cheese buttons, and much more for 15 years. They sold the Union Bar and Grill in 2020, and Vonnie retired.

Vonnie was involved in many civic organizations throughout the years in McClusky. Her love for planning, growing the community, and creating enjoyment showed in all she did. From planning class and all-school reunions to Midsummer Fest weekends to supporting local merchants, she helped make McClusky a wonderful place to raise a family and live.

Vonnie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and an occasional trip to the casino. She also enjoyed traveling to warmer locations, bowling, reading romance novels, and playing video or card solitaire.

Vonnie is survived by her husband, Steve of Denhoff; daughter, Melissa (Jeremy) Ward of Denver, Colorado; son, Dustin (Caroline) Erdmann; two grandchildren, Axel and Corabelle of Omaha, Nebraska; and her mother, Helen Grosz of Harvey. Vonnie was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Grosz.

Vonnie was too young to leave us, and we will be reminded every day of something she said or did. We will miss her dearly. Her humor, compassion, friendship, sense of community, and love will never be forgotten.
