Ruth Aileen Carl, maiden name Gowin, passed away June 29th, 2026 in Lecanto, FL. She was born to Harold and Ruby Gowin in Wilmar, CA July 3, 1937. At an early age the family moved to the farm near Glenburn, ND, where she was raised.
Aileen, as she was known by family and friends, is survived by sisters Myrna Mayer and Gayle Proffit, son Brooks Armstrong and his wife Nancy, son Corbin Armstrong, grandson Trevor Armstrong and his wife Stephanie, and great grandchildren Freya, Byron and Robin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clement C. Carl, sister Alice White, brother Steven Gowin and son Tyler Armstrong.
Aileen grew up on the farm with her sisters Alice, Myrna, and Gayle and brother Steven, all of whom she maintained contact with until the end. Many of her fondest childhood memories were of time spent with her grandmother Grace Gowin, who lived across the road. She also loved riding her pony, usually bareback! She graduated high school from Glenburn High School in 1955.
Ruth Aileen married Larry Armstrong of Glenburn, ND in 1955. They had three boys; Brooks, Tyler and Corbin. The family moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1963 where the kids grew up.
In 1985 she moved to Orlando, FL and started a picture framing business. In 1989 she met, and later that year, married Sgt. Major C.C. Carl, Marines, retired. They were together until C.C.’s death in 2005.
Aileen lived out her life in Inglis, FL, retired and enjoying her yard, in which she took great pride. She continued her lifelong faith in God. She thoroughly enjoyed going to church and gathering with her friends there. She was surrounded by a very watchful and supportive group of friends in her neighborhood as well.
We love and miss you, Mom. You’ve gone to a better place, with God, where there is no pain. Rest in Peace.
