Marleen Weflen, 77, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of New Town, ND, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Mesa.
Marleen Ellen Weflen was born on August 17, 1948, in Minot to Olav and Rose (Lien) Weflen. She grew up on the family farm northeast of New Town and graduated from New Town High School in 1966. Later, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Personnel and Management from Minnesota State University in Mankato in 1984.
On April 11, 1987, Marleen married Gary Tiedt. Together, they lived in North Dakota, California, and Iowa, then returned to Minnesota in 1996. She worked for Wachovia-Ameriprise until 2007, when she moved to Chandler, AZ. She continued working for Economic Concepts until her retirement in 2009. Gary passed away in 2006. She worked as a Compliance Administrator for both companies.
Marleen loved to travel, both across the United States and around the world. Her passport was filled with stamps from places including every European country, the United Kingdom, Antarctica, South America, Russia, Australia, and more. She often traveled with Celebrity Cruise Line. She also enjoyed flying to Norway and England to visit family and friends, then renting a car to explore. Marleen was always up for an adventure.
She loved spending time with family and making new friends. In her free time, Marleen enjoyed reading or working on diamond art. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, the Delta Sigma Pi professional organization, and several travel clubs. Her vibrant personality and welcoming spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marleen is survived by her sisters, Sharon Kruse, Colleen Weflen, and Cathy Weflen; nieces, Sarah Rismon, Abby Reep, Kelsey Langham, Carissa McCray, Kaylee Gunderson, and Sierra Youngbird; stepdaughters, Shelly Thompson and Tanya Smiley; step-granddaughters, Hanna (Thompson) Fouss, Meagan Thompson, and Evelyn Smiley; step-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Lincoln Fouss; several aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Olav and Rose Weflen; her husband, Gary Tiedt; her brother, Norris Weflen; and her stepson-in-law, Loren Thompson.
Memorial Service: Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11 a.m, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural New Town.
Inurnment: Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural New Town.
Marleen was generous and supported many causes. Memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s, Minnesota State University – Mankato, or Mayo Clinic – Rochester.
