Doris Brentrup, 96, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.
Doris Jane Strom was born May 26, 1930, the daughter of Lloyd and Blanche (Shupe) Strom, in New England, North Dakota. She was raised at the base of Rainy Butte in Slope County, ND. She graduated from New England High School in 1947.
While waitressing at Castle Lunch in New England, she met Valery "Ben" Brentrup. They were united in marriage on August 8, 1950, in Mobridge, SD. They made their home in Mobridge and Williston, ND before settling in Minot in 1957. While living in Mobridge they had two children, Bob and Diane. Brad and Jim joined the family in Williston with Becky and Donna following in Minot.
Doris never worked outside the home, but she was very busy with six kids. When her youngest was ready for school, people would ask if she was sad that her baby was going to school. Her reply was, "I have had preschoolers in my home for 18 years. No! I am not sad that I will be able to go to the grocery store by myself!"
Doris was an avid seamstress and knitter. She made most of her kids' clothes and knitted approximately 50 - 60 personalized sweaters for family and friends. In her later years she became the backup babysitter for her grandkids. This usually consisted of getting donuts from the grocery store and then watching The Price is Right.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and she will be greatly missed.
Her loving family includes: children, Robert (Chuck Clingman) Brentrup, Brooklyn Center, MN, Diane (Tim) Powers, Fort Worth, TX, Brad (Kay) Brentrup, Minot, Jim Brentrup, Minot, Becky (Tim) Johnson, Minot, Donna (Bruce) Schonberger, Minot; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, with another arriving in August; sisters, Betty (Karl) Wilen, Battle Ground, WA, Elenjo Schaff, Bothell, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; sister, Beverly Waliezer; brother, Claire Strom.
Memorial Service: Monday, July 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service.
Memorials: are preferred to a charity of the donor's choice.
