David Lynnes

Oct. 13, 1947-June 30, 2026

Bottineau

David, son of John and Ingeborg (Bratrud) Lynnes, was born on October 13, 1947, in Rolette, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm with his eight siblings. He learned the value of hard work at an early age. His family depended on him to save the farm.

At the age of 16, David began working for Rex Paxman. Through hard work and perseverance, he became a journeyman bricklayer, launching a lifelong career in the masonry trade. His skill, persistence, and strong work ethic led him to become the owner of a successful masonry business. He took great pride in the quality of his work and the reputation he built over the years.

On September 30, 1967, David married the love of his life, Miriam Helmuth, at Ox Creek Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children: John, Mary Jo, and Rachel. David and Miriam managed Northland Trailer Court, working side by side for many years. In 1980, they built their home north of Bottineau, where they created a lifetime of cherished memories with their children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Family meant everything to him, and he never hesitated to go the extra mile for those he loved. He was always generous and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, whether it was a difficult job or a simple favor. Those who knew him often heard him say, “I’m just one call away.”

When he wasn’t working, David enjoyed snowmobiling, boating at Lake Metigoshe, time with his grandchildren, driving his ’63 convertible in parades, car shows, and being a part of the Hills and Plains Cruisers. He was happiest when surrounded by family or working alongside others.

David attended Grace Lutheran Brethren Church and enjoyed giving people rides to church. He was a 54-year member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union #1.

David is survived by his children, John (JaLee) Lynnes of Bottineau, Mary Jo (Dan) Jahner of Bottineau, and Rachel (Boomer) Patterson of Minot, grandchildren, Jocelyn Jahner, Chelsy Jahner, Lily Patterson, Colby Patterson, Garrett Lynnes, Mason Lynnes and Jordan Miller, sister Roxanne Mott, brothers-in-law Ervin Jr (Ruthann) Helmuth, Sandy Helmuth, Virgil Helmuth, Herschel (Tammy) Helmuth, sisters-in-laws Avis (Dan) O’Connell and Jacquelyn Lynnes, extended family, and many dear friends.

Preceded in death by wife Miriam, parents, infant sister Marie, brothers: Lester Lynnes and Donovan Lynnes, sisters: Yvonne Drege, Lola Hanson, Jeanine Aarhus, Sandra Metz, and Mildred Monson as well as brothers-in-law: Allen Drege, Orlin (Bill) Hanson, David Aarhus, Raymond Monson, Robert Mott, and Gordon Metz, and great-granddaughter, Macie Lynnes.

David’s legacy is one of family, hard work, and loyalty to his employees and friends. His craftsmanship can be seen in the buildings he helped create, but his greatest legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and the countless people whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
