With love and gratitude for a life that touched many hearts, we announce the passing of Colleen Melanie Hanson, 59, of Minot, who entered eternal rest on July 27, 2026, at her residence, with loved ones by her side.
Born on July 14, 1967, in Minot, North Dakota, to Lloyd Hanson and Mary Hanson (Bjordahl), Colleen was a treasured child whose life changed dramatically at a very young age after becoming critically ill with a severe fever. The illness left her with a lifelong intellectual disability. Although life’s path was not the one envisioned, it became one filled with extraordinary lessons of unconditional love, patience, resilience, and grace.
Throughout her life, Colleen found joy in books and the company of others. She especially enjoyed shopping for shoes and her Diet Coke, spending time with family, and the companionship of those who loved and cared for her. Colleen's smile brightened every room, and her gentle spirit reminded others that happiness is often found in life’s simplest moments. Though she communicated differently than many, her life spoke through kindness, perseverance, and unconditional love.
Colleen is survived by brothers, Kevin Lloyd Hanson (Patti), Lloyd Hanson Jr. (Lorry) and Artie Hanson.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gilbert and Elizabeth Hanson; parents, Lloyd and Mary Hanson and sister, Sherri Hanson.
Visitation: A reviewal will not be held as cremation has taken place. Funeral Service: Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Thompson Larson Funeral Home. Burial: The family will hold a private burial at a later date in Hope Lutheran Cemetery of Makoti, ND.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Kalix Group Home and to the staff of HIA Hospice for the compassionate care shown throughout Colleen’s life.
While Colleen’s life may have looked different than many, it was no less meaningful. Her legacy lives on in the love shared with family, friends, and caregivers. Every life has immeasurable worth, and Colleen will be remembered with love and gratitude.
