Minot
Carol B. Johnson, 85, Minot, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in her residence.
Carol Beth Hunskor was born March 26, 1941, a daughter of Roy E. and Ruth (Foss) Hunskor in Westhope, ND. She was raised and educated in Newburg, ND, where she graduated from Newburg High School in 1959. While in high school, Carol was a member of the 1959 Newburg Eagles State Basketball Team that finished 4th and also participated in cheerleading. Carol furthered her education by attending Minot State University, prior to transferring to St. Josef's School of Hair Design in Fargo, ND, where she earned a Cosmetology and Hairstyling degree. She returned to Westhope, where she worked at Hoiland's Salon.
On October 27, 1962, Carol was united in marriage to Clayton "CJ" Johnson at Dovre Lutheran Church, Newburg, ND. They made their home in Dunning, ND, where Carol continued to work at Hoilands. In the early 1970's, the family moved to Bismarck, where they owned and operated the Silhouette Salon, which was a beauty and exercise salon. In 1975, they moved to Minot, when they purchased Minot Laundry and later Bray's Cleaners. Together CJ and Carol owned and operated the cleaners until 2006. CJ died August 29, 2012. Following his death, Carol returned to the workforce and was active at the Minot Domestic Violence Center, working fulltime, retiring in March of 2026, retiring at the age of 85, something she was very proud of.
Carol was an avid Bingo player, and excellent baker, and enjoyed cooking. She made the best spaghetti and meatballs. Carol enjoyed time at the family cabin at Lake Sakakawea, where she enjoyed skiing and even would parasail. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. She also enjoyed skiing on vacation with special friends in the mountains of Colorado, taking fishing trips with her grandchildren to Canada, and enjoyed attending lutefisk dinners. Carol was her grandchildren's greatest fan and never missed an opportunity to support them.
Her loving family includes: children, Deanne Johnson, Troy Johnson; grandchildren: Layne (Laura) Johnson, Stephanie Velimirovich, Brandon McFall, Kole Johnson, Arieal Johnson, Branden (Hallie) Thorson, Austyn (Courtney) Haider; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Mason, Bella, Laken, Daxton, Della, Wyatt, Westley, Brantley, McCoy, Walker and Luke; siblings: Faye (Rodney) Hunskor, Robert Hunskor;, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clayton, father and mother-in-law R.F. and Catherine Johnson, sisters-in-laws Irma Hunskor, Helen Johnson; brother-in-law Marvie Johnson, Virgie (Ralph) Christianson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Service: Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot
Visitation: There will be no reviewal as cremation has taken place, however, friends may sign a guest register on Thursday, July 23, 2026 one hour prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Inurnment: Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
