Betty J. (Monson) Powell, 93, Minot, ND and Weslaco, TX, died Thursday, July 9, 2026, in a Weslaco hospice home.

Betty was born May 11, 1933, in Williston, ND to Fred and Tressie (Bergh) Monson. Growing up in Williston, she talked many times about working at the swimming pool and the movie theaters during her school years. She graduated from Williston High School in 1952.

Betty was united in marriage to Denys Powell on August 8, 1954, in Williston. They moved to Minot in 1956 where Denys worked in printing, and Betty raised their three children: Doug, Tim, and Jane. When the youngest entered school Betty "finally" was able to get out of the house, settling in as office manager for 29 years at Northland Sports and Supply, a wholesale sporting goods company. Betty was a lifetime international member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. In her retirement years she became a passionate quilter, giving many of her beautiful, hand-crafted treasures to friends and family.

During their 67 years together, Betty and Denys spent endless weekends camping and visiting Lake Metigoshe. Upon retirement, Betty and Denys traveled full-time in their motor home before settling down in their new home at Siesta Retirement Village in Weslaco, TX where they made new friends and lived for 22 years.

Betty is survived by her children Douglas W. (Patty) Powell, Cheyenne, WY, Tim D. (Lynn) Powell, Rapid City, SD and Jane Horgeshimer, Minot, ND, five grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Denys Powell (March 7, 2022), son-in-law Jesse Horgeshimer, brother Fred Monson Jr., and sisters Bev, Dorothy, and Jackie.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday, July 26th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
