Marie Lewis

Nov. 15, 1933-May 31, 2026

Moses Lake, Wash.

After a long, fulfilling life, Marie Lewis, 92, passed away on May 31, 2026, in Moses Lake, Washington.

She was born to John and Myrtle Kath on Nov. 15, 1933, in Minot. Marie was raised with a young sister, Audrey, with whom she maintained a close relationship throughout adulthood. She was a graduate of Minot High School, class of 1951.

In 1952, Marie married Robert (Bob) S. Lewis, Jr., and they remained married for more than 30 years. Together they had three children: Robert, Daniel, and Ann. While living in MInot, she and Bob were members of Christ Lutheran Church.

In 1987, Marie moved to Olympia, Wash. to be closer to her daughter and new granddaughter. During her career, Marie worked for various companies as a bookkeeper. After she retired, she took up running and was proud to complete her first marathon.

She enjoyed RV traveling with Charlotte, her Standard Poodle. In 1999, she moved to Apache Junction, Arizona, where she worked as the manager of the fabrics department for walmart. She returned to Olympia in 2004 and lived there until 2025.

In her early years, members of Marie’s family had been rail workers and it kindled in her a lifetime love of the railroads. She became a volunteer at Olympia’s Amtrak Centennial Station and for several years enjoyed meeting and talking with train travelers. Her volunteer work enabled her to travel on Amtrak to visit family back in Minot several times.

Marie always had an artistic flair and put those skills to use in gardening, drawing, painting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader and enjoyed participating in book club discussions. To the end of her days, she was an enthusiastic Seattle Mariners fan and could talk baseball with great knowledge and confidence. Her family will forever be grateful for the many years they shared with her and the qualities she instilled in all of us.

She is survived by son Dan (Brenda) Lewis, Minot, ND; daughter Ann Briggs, Wenatchee, WA; nieces Nancy Scofield, Minot, and Peggy Cross, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; nephews John Wallace, Minot, and Tom Wallace, Ottawa, Ontario; granddaughter Erin Peterson (Ryan), Chelan, WA, grandson Brandon Lewis, Minot, ND; and eight great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Audrey Wallace, son Rob, and grandson Chris.

At Marie’s request, there will be no memorial service.
