Minot
Bennie Mosser, 93, Minot, ND, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at Trinity Homes, Minot.
Bennie Mosser was born October 8, 1932, the son of Ben and Ottilia (Ott) Mosser, in Karlsruhe, ND. He started his life on the farm east of Karlsruhe and attended a country school until about 1947 when the family moved to town and he continued school with “the nuns” as he put it. “The nuns” seemed to lack an appreciation for his German language skills. This caused the breakage of a few rulers (as discipline) and, as Bennie tells, a path (worn by “the nuns”) to the family home across the street from the school. However, as the story goes (told by Bennie), his dad Ben didn’t get too worked up about the visits, so not much follow up discipline was ever done. This little snip-it may give you an in-site to Bennie’s adult life. School did not end up being for him and he decided he had enough after completing the 11th grade.
Bennie held a few different jobs after leaving school, including laying railroad tracks, working on the radar base outside of Minot and even working at a clothing store downtown Minot.
Uncertain of the details of how it all came to be, but happy it did, on June 6, 1960, he and Sally Aberle were married in Minot, ND. They were together building a life and a family for 59 years before Sally passed away July 21, 2019. They made their home in Minot and were blessed with four children. Glen, Lisa, Roxy and Doug.
Part of that life they built, included Bennie and Sally being charter members of Our Lady of Grace Church and Bennie a charter member of the Knights of Columbus of Minot attaining his 4th Degree exemplification, where he was very active in the earlier years. He was a current member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.
In 1965, while driving a delivery route for Pepsi, Bennie found an opportunity that would set him on a path for the next 50+ years. He made the purchase of Magic Mile Market (Bubble Up) located on south Broadway. It was the perfect career for him to do his own thing and spread his wings as the socializer he was. He enjoyed greeting his customers, listening to the stories from the regulars and telling a few of his own. Bennie and Sally expanded their grocery business in 1972 by opening B & D Market along with Sally’s brother Dennis providing the D of B&D. This gave Bennie the venue to expand his PR skills, he touched the lives of many and received the friendship of many. He may not have been good at remembering names when someone would come up and say ‘Hey Bennie, how ya doin’?’ but he could probably tell you what they did for a living and tidbits about their lives.
Bennie loved living life! Between visiting relatives and earning trips to various places through the store he and Sally took many trips travelling across the country and out of the country. He enjoyed travelling and even in the later years just enjoyed going for rides to look at the scenery.
Bennie was proud of the life he and Sally built and the legacy he could leave for his children and grandchildren. He may not have been very good at expressing his pride and love for his children directly, but you ask anyone he talked to and they would tell you the accolades and love he had for them. It was a life well lived and when he could no longer move his body the way he wanted or talk when he wanted or watch his Minnesota Twins, he knew it was time, and God agreed, he went to meet up with Sally just in time to float across the dance floor doing a polka for their 66th wedding anniversary!
His loving family includes: children, Glen (Debbie) Mosser, Lisa (Corby) Kaul, Roxanne Mosser, Doug (Kristi) Mosser; grandchildren, Blake (Annie) Kaul, Dylan Kaul, Anthony Mosser and Emily (Dylan) Fowler; great-grandchildren, Briar and Cambri Kaul, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Sally; half sister Barbara Schaan, two infant sisters, Marie and Theresia and toddler John, siblings and their spouses; Francis (Benny) Heilman, Margaret (Joe) Kramer, Veronica (Louis) Schiele, Wendelin (Margaret), Steve (Loretta), Mike (Margaret), Betty (Harry) Lanning, Tony, Helen (Edward) Hilzendager, Theresa (Andrew) Deibert, Richard (Leona). In-laws Anna and Tony Aberle, Dennis (Kathy) Aberle, Jerry Stanton, Bill Watson and a number of nieces and nephews.
