Bottineau

Shirley Larson, age 84 of Bottineau, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at a Bottineau hospital. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.

Shirley Larson, a daughter of Thor and Gena (Gunderson) Gronvold, was born on March 31, 1942, in Rugby. She was raised in Barton and graduated from Barton High School in 1961 as Valedictorian. On January 28, 1961, she married L. Duane Larson at the Barton Lutheran Church. That same year, they moved to Bottineau. She did bookkeeping for Page Insurance and Hal’s Men’s Ware and they purchased Page Insurance in 1971.

She is survived by her husband, Duane of Bottineau; son, Kent (Kristen) Larson of Tucson, AZ and their children, Sienna, Patrick and Darrick Larson and Jake and Luke Guzman; son, Kirk Larson of Scottsdale, AZ and his children, Hartman and Hunter Larson; son Kal (Sarah) Larson of Berthold, ND and their children, Lauren Larson, Madi Klein and Emma and Eli Brewer and Kaylee Johnson; sisters-in-law, Rose Ann Rodeman and Mavis Rasmussen; brother-in-law, Kenneth Mattern and nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Thor and Gena Gronvold; sister, Wanda Mattern, brother, Warren Gronvold; nephew, Wayne Mattern; parents-in-law, Leonard and Marguerite Larson; sister-in-law, Ruth Skagen; brothers-in-law, Chuck Skagen, Gordon Rasmussen and Douglas Larson.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Friends may sign the online register book at www.nerofuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the First Lutheran Church or an organization of the donors choosing.
