Leonard Schaan, 91, Minot, ND, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026, at a care center in Velva.
Born August 14, 1934, in Rugby, ND, to Vincent and Clara (Kunnanz) Schaan, he graduated from Balta High School in 1952 and NDSCS Wahpeton in 1959 as an electrician. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator in Germany. Leonard married Blanche Delaney on May 30, 1960. They made their home in Minot, with a brief time in Williston, and raised three children.
Leonard worked as an electrician across North Dakota and Minnesota, retiring from Main Electric in 1996. He was a longtime member of IBEW Local 714, the Knights of Columbus, and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
He enjoyed time with family, woodworking, fishing, gardening, and traveling, including winters in Arizona and Texas and trips abroad with his wife and daughter Karen.
He is survived by his daughters: Karen Schaan (Brian) and Jerolyn Austin; Grandsons: Eric Johnson, Bryan Johnson, David Schaan, and Jack Austin; Granddaughters: Alyssa Guttormson (Alex), Brittany Schaan, and Mallori Cruse (Chris); seven great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Schaan. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Blanche, his son, Galen (Theresa) Schaan; several siblings; in-laws and other relatives.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at NOON at Our Lady of Grace of Catholic Grace, Minot. Interment: Tuesday at 2 pm at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. Visitation: Monday, May 4, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Vigil Prayer Service: Monday at 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.
