David Allen Rinn, 89, Minot, formerly of Dickinson, ND, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

David was born October 30, 1936, in Enid, Oklahoma to Raymond Riley Rinn and Pauline Evelyn Lane Rinn.

David graduated from Minot High School in 1954. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree, Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medicine from the University of North Dakota. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Wake Forest School of Medicine (North Carolina) in 1962. He completed his medical training in general medicine and surgery in 1964 in Nashville, Tennessee.

David began his medical career in Cando, ND in 1964 and served the community until 1981. During that time, David also served one term as Mayor of the City. In 1981, he accepted the position of Program Director for the UND Family Practice Residency Program in Minot. In 1991, he returned to Cando to practice and retired in 1998.

David was involved in multiple organizations and activities throughout his life and received many accolades including being promoted to Chief of Staff of the Towner County Memorial Hospital in Cando. He was named the North Dakota Family Physician of the Year in 1994 and Assistant Dean, Northwest Campus, at the UND School of Medicine.

On September 21, 2002, David married the love of his life, Patricia Vendsel. They made their home in Dickinson, ND. David and Pat enjoyed traveling across the US and abroad. David was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He and Pat were happiest spending their summers at their lake cabin at Mossett Bay on Lake Sakakawea.

David is survived by his loving wife, Pat; his sisters Katie and Linda; children Patricia, David, Barbara, Kristine, Janelle and Mary; step-children, Mike, Jason and Lisa; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Douglas, sister Rae Ann, son James and his beloved Labradors.

Visitation: Friday, May 22, 2026, one hour prior to the service at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Funeral Service: Friday, May 22, 2026, at 11:30 am at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Graveside Service: Friday, May 22, 2026, at 2 pm at Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND.
