Mildred Heilman, 96, of Harvey, died Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Prayer services will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be on the St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery of Harvey.

Mildred Grace Heilman, was born November 25, 1929 in Goodrich, ND to Henry and Mary (Ehman) Haux.

At age 2 her parents bought a farm site north of Chaseley, there she attended the Delzer Township Country school till 8th grade, then went to Bowdon for high school. She eventually moved to Harvey to take care of her Grandfather Mike Ehman, after his wife was killed in a car accident.

Mildred (Millie) worked at Kirtens Café and later as a Candy Striper at St. Aloisius Hospital. On September 23, 1953 she was united in marriage to Joseph Heilman, they made their home on the Heilman family farmstead west of Wellsburg, where they worked side by side and raised their family. Joe passed away May 18, 2010.

Milllie always had a big garden and beautiful flower beds and was always willing to share her produce and skills. She loved to quilt and make blankets in the winter months while she listened to her polka music on the radio. She did a lot of canning and baking kuchen and buns, which were her specialty with the bun recipe being passed on from her Mother. Family and friends being blessed by her sharing.

She volunteered for many years at the nursing home fixing hair for the residents and then it was off to Senior Citizens for lunch and bingo with her friends. She was a member of Catholic Daughter’s. Joe and Millie enjoyed fishing and camping, bus tours and being snowbirds every winter in New Mexico, making many friends along the way.

Millie loved her Grandchildren dearly and got to hold a many of her Great Grandchildren in her arms, which would bring a big smile to her face. Her warmth and smile will be deeply missed, but forever remembered.

Millie is survived by her Children, Gary (Marilyn), Jeanette (Tom) Deede, Glen (Tawnia), her six Grandchildren, Joey (Courtney) Heilman, Jennifer (Kyle) Meier, Philip (Mindy) Deede, Nicole (Jordan) Wanzek, Dustin (Beth) Heilman, Kate (KC) Dockter, and twelve Great Grandchildren. Brothers, Norman (Betty) Haux & Darvin Haux.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Mary Haux and husband Joe and numerous Brothers and Sisters in Law

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the St. Aloisius LTC staff who took such wonderful care of Millie over the last 11 years. We can not thank you enough for all the times you showered her with love and care. You became a part of our family in those years and we have deep gratitude for each and everyone of you. Special thank you also to Dr. Nyhus and Julie Keller for the gentle care of her health needs over all these many years. Special thanks to the sisters and Father Kevin who spent time with Mom and visited her and prayed with her.
