It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Louise Esh Heidorn on April 15, 2026. Louise was the widow of long-time Minot physician, Dr. Guenther Hans Heidorn, who preceded her in death. The family wishes to thank the staff at CaringEdge Health Service, FirstLight Home Care of Central North Dakota, and especially Jenny Smith for their dedicated care during Louise’s last months.
Louise was born June 3, 1924, in Milroy, Pennsylvania to Wallace B. and Mary (Spengler) Esh. She graduated from Milroy High School in 1942, and later that year she entered nursing training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) in Philadelphia. She graduated in 1945, receiving the Francis Heed Adler Award in Eye Nursing, and was elected as Class Adviser for the HUP graduating class of 1949.
Louise spent her last six months of training in the Nurse Cadet Corps at Camp Lee, Virginia and afterwards returned to HUP, where she was promoted to Head Nurse of the Women’s Surgical Floor, a position which she occupied until she departed from the hospital in 1949. Louise married Dr. G. H. Heidorn in Philadelphia on December 18, 1948. They had two daughters, Heidi Ann and Lisa Ann. Guenther served in the Public Health Service from 1949 to 1952, where he was assigned to the American Consulate in Bremen, Germany. In 1958, the family moved to Minot, where both daughters grew up. After living in Atherton, California between 1971-1974, they moved back once again to Minot in 1974, where Guenther continued to practice medicine until 1989.
Louise devotedly cared for her husband of 60 years in their home during his last years. He died in January 2009 after being in ill health for some time. Louise and Guenther are survived by their two daughters, Heidi (Stewart) Peacock and Dr. Lisa (Steven Cole) Heidorn, grandchildren Rebecka Louise and Clayton Daniel Peacock, half-sister Jeanne (Wayne) Palmer, nieces Laura (Andrew) Theiler, Penny (Scott) Winkler, nephew Eric Palmer, and cousins Susan Fink, Forrest McMahan, John McMahan, and David Esh.
Cremation has taken place, and the ashes of both Louise and Guenther will be placed together. There will be no viewing.
