Janice Slavick, 93, Minot, died Monday, March 23, 2026, in a Minot assisted living facility.
Janice “Susie” Slavick was born October 14, 1932, on a farm near Hay Springs Nebraska, to Arthur and Erma (Christofferson) Andreasen.
Jan attended a country elementary school, then moved with her family to Alliance, Nebraska, where she graduated from Alliance High School in 1950. She entered nurses training that fall at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance and was transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot, ND. Janice graduated and became a registered nurse in 1953, returning to Nebraska and working at the hospital in Alliance. In 1954, she moved to Denver, Colorado and was employed at Presbyterian hospital.
Janice married Elroy Slavick on June 13, 1954. They moved to Minot, ND, where she started work at St. Joseph’s Hospital and were blessed with four children.
In 1968, Janice moved to Medical Arts Clinic. She became the CPR instructor for the clinic in 1975 and also joined the American Heart Association. Jan taught CPR classes to Medical Arts employees, church staff, family and friends. She retired from Medical Arts Clinic in 1989.
Jan was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot. She became involved in the Parish Nurse Program in 1994, serving Christ Lutheran Church as its Parish Nurse until 2009 when she adjusted her role to visiting nurse. She was also involved in the free clinic named City and Country Health Clinic that was formed in August of 1999, taking on a nurse coordinator role in March of 2000 serving the community for a number of years.
Jan will be remembered for her passion for nursing and how devoted she was to contributing to the Minot community and her love for traveling with her husband, Elroy.
Jan is survived by her children Shelle (Rick) Novak, Hendrum, MN, Sharla (Larry) Nesson, Burlington, ND and, Randy (Nancy) Slavick, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Jerame (Lindsey) Novak, Jordan (Tasya) Novak, Jessa Novak, Kyla (Giles) Snyder, Karlee (Daniel) Klindworth, and Cody (Tia) Nesson; 9 great-great grandchildren and brother, Dana (Garlea) Andreasen, Omaha, NE along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years in 2024, Elroy, her three-year-old daughter Sherre Sue, parents, infant sister Joyce, brother David ‘Skip’ Andreasen, and sister Glenda (KuKee) Meter (her best friend).
A private family graveside service will be held at Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot.
Public Visitation: Friday, April 24, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
