Gwen Ellen (Ellingson) Steinberg, age 78, passed through the heavenly gates and into the arms of Jesus on April 16, 2026 in Trinity hospital of unknown causes.

Gwen was born on March 11, 1948, in MInot North Dakota to Marion and Pauline Siders. She was a pleasant little girl who helped everyone. However, she was not above playing tricks on her brother Gary at times. She went to Grade School at Sunnyside. Her mom remarried when she was five and her closest brother Gary was four. In another five years, she became the little momma, taking care of the next seven children to come along; five more boys and two girls. She went to Minot High where she joined the Rainbow girls. She graduated from High School to join the Navy as a corpsman at Quantico Naval Hospital, Virginia.

After being in the Navy for three years, she got married and moved out to California for a few years where she trained to be a nurse. After getting divorced, she moved back to Minot and started working at Trinity Hospital. After many years of dedicated work helping people in recovery, she went to Trinity nursing home, to assist the disabled and the elderly. She took them for rides, getting them ice cream and other treats.

After retiring from there, she went to help at the Lord’s Pantry, where she was well liked. She helped the needy find food at no charge to them. She liked to take candy and little treats to the children as well.

Gwen was always cheerful, helping anyone who needed it. She was living alone with two fluffy and adorable cats that she loved. The cats need to be rehomed now, poor things.

She is survived by her oldest brother, Gary Ellingson, her caretaker in her later years. Brother Cory Ellingson, the youngest brother and Brother Bruce. Sister Diane (Ellingson) Deschambault, and sister Becky (Ellingson) Albers, divorced. SHe is preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Pauline Siders, Stepfather Mervin Ellingson, brother John, brother Jeff and brother Dale.

Memorials will be distributed to Gwen’s favorite charities including Hairball Haven.

A memorial service will be at the Minot American Legion at 1949 N. Broadway on Friday, May 1 at 2 p.m.

She was a wonderful person and will be missed by all.
