Minot

Inez Nathan, 89, Minot, died Sunday, March 22, 2026, in her home.

Inez Evelyn Davis was born September 23, 1936, in Golden Valley, ND, to Alfred R. and Bessie (Foster) Davis. She was the youngest of seven children. Inez was raised and educated in several communities as her father worked as a Standard Oil bulk agent. She attended schools in Robinson, Underwood, Hettinger, and Scranton, ND; she also spent over a year in Baltimore, MD as the family travelled to seek medical care for her brother Burton. Inez graduated from Scranton High School in 1954.

She always considered Underwood her hometown, having lived there the longest during her childhood. She enjoyed many class reunions over the years.

Following graduation, she moved to Bismarck, ND, and worked as a bookkeeper for the Montgomery Ward catalog department. She met William “Bill” Nathan of Tuttle, ND in 1956. They were united in marriage on May 17, 1958, in Bismarck, ND and initially settled in Tuttle, ND as Bill owned Nathan’s Blacksmith Shop.

In 1960, the family moved to Minot and Bill began working at Minot Welding Co., eventually becoming a part-owner. During those years, Inez was employed in the credit department at Sears, Roebuck & Co.”

In March of 1964, Inez began employment with Minot Public Schools at Lincoln Elementary. In 1971, became the secretary of the school, retiring in June 1998. To many students of Lincoln School, she was referred to as “Mrs. Lincoln”. She was more than the secretary, she was the principal, the nurse, the cook and she treated those students as her own children, making sure they never went without.

Inez and Bill enjoyed traveling, taking road trips and taking the back roads to see many small communities. They truly enjoyed always finding a different route to take, including a favorite trip on Route 66. They also had two wonderful Alaskan Cruises which was the highlight of their travels. Inez and Bill also enjoyed primitive camping, fishing, as well as ice fishing out on Lake Audubon. Bill died in 2008.

After retirement, Inez kept busy doing the bookwork for Minot Welding, volunteering with the RSVP Program, PEO and serving on various church committees and boards. She had a passion for genealogy and crafting, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In 2010, Inez found a second love, Maynard Kuebler and they were committed partners until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William; her parents; and all of her siblings.

She is survived her son, Neil (Letta) Nathan of Minot, and their children, Tiffany College, Tosha College (great-granddaughter Caleena), and Madison Nathan; her daughter, Linda (Warren) Schatz of Eden, UT, West Fargo, ND, and their children, Kaitlyn (Matt Seufert), Elizabeth “Libby” Varberg (great-granddaughter, Evelyn), Kyleigh Schatz, and Jacob Schatz; and her partner Maynard Kuebler. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
