The daughter of Joseph and Helen (Voeller) Bachmeier, Magdalena was born February 3, 1930 on the family farm near Orrin. She was raised there and attended Rosebush Country School in the area. On November 8, 1948, she married Eustachius Duchsherer at the Blumenfeld Catholic Church north of Drake. They made their home on the Duchsherer family farm near Balfour where they farmed and ran a dairy operation. Together they enjoyed dancing and welcomed 10 children, and hosted many more family and friends in their home. Following their retirement in 1988, they moved to Drake where she resided, until moving to long-term care in July.
Magdalena (Maggie, Magda) was a homemaker, beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, the true heart of her family. She was known for her sense of humor and warm smile. She enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, and most of all, graciously hosting family and friends in her home. She loved nothing more than hosting loved ones, always prepared with a bucket of cookies, a pan of bars, kuchen, or fresh pie and hot coffee or her famous kase knephla (cheese buttons). Magdalena also enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, but happily spent hours playing Uno, spoons and kings in the corner with her grandchildren and others who stopped by for a visit. She spent her spare time sewing, crocheting and stitching, embroidering and hand quilting treasured gifts for family and loved ones. She was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and Drake Senior Citizens.
