Doris Freda Bergeson, 77, Minot, formerly of Kief, ND, died Sunday, February 8, 2026, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born August 29, 1948, in Harvey, ND, to Alwin and Freda (Ammon) Rau. She grew up on the family farm near Kief, ND. She attended Drake Public School, graduating in 1966. Doris attended Minot State College, where she earned a teaching degree in Business and Home Economics. After college, Doris worked as a teacher in Herried, South Dakota, teaching high school home economics and business classes for three years.
Doris was united in marriage to Rickey Bergeson on August 18, 1973, at Kassel Reformed Church in rural Anamoose. They made their home in Minot and were blessed with three children. Doris provided a loving home for her children and enjoyed doing creative crafts and hands-on activities with them. She also sold Avon, Home and Garden Party items, and worked as a home daycare provider for many years, in addition to her full-time duties as a wife and mother.
Doris grew up as a member of Kassel Reformed Church. Her love for the Lord remained steady until the day she died.
Doris enjoyed sewing quilts and clothes for her grandchildren, and she deeply valued time spent visiting with them. She also enjoyed gardening and baking. She will forever be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and protector.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Rick, Minot; children Michelle (Adam) Arndt, Bismarck, ND, Nicole (Josh) May, Berryton, KS, and Joel (Ashley) Bergeson, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren Anna, Jeremiah, Alyssa, and Ellieana; Jonathan, Caleb, Kaylee, and Bethany; Kiley, Hannah, and Easton; brothers Allen (Roxanne) Rau, MN, and Arrel (Angel Lewis) Rau, GA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Arlen and Aaron Rau; father and mother-in-law, Lyle and Helen (Hetletvedt) Bergeson.
Celebration of Doris Bergeson’s Life: 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2026, at Trinity Church in Minot.
Interment: Kassel Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Anamoose, ND
Visitation: Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to The Lord’s Cupboard Food Pantry in Minot.
