Kenmare
Dale Larsen, 87, Kenmare, ND, passed away February 1, 2026, at the Kenmare Community Hospital.
Dale Monte Larsen was born January 2, 1939, the son of Jens and Edna (Nelson) Larsen, in Minot, ND. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was raised in the Flaxton and Coteau area amongst his many special aunts, uncles and cousins, attending public schools in Flaxton and Coteau and graduating from Coteau High School in 1956. During his high school years, Dale was a proud member of the Coteau Elks basketball team. In his senior year, the team won Districts and advanced to Regionals. He sometimes worked in his family’s general store in Coteau.
While attending Minot State University, Dale and several other boys from Coteau played basketball for the Coteau Elks Team, organized by Larry Wahlund as part of the Minot Recreation League, creating wonderful memories. In 1957, the “Coteau Elks” won the Minot Recreation League Championship. After graduation, Dale taught in Starkweather, Epping, Columbus, Tolley, and Powers Lake, serving as high school principal in Tolley as well as elementary principal in Powers Lake. A lifelong sports fan, he also coached junior high boys’ basketball at Tolley and 5th and 6th grade in Powers Lake. In his later years, he enjoyed watching and attending Kenmare and Powers Lake basketball games and keeping track of players’ stats each year.
He married Lois Lindberg on February 17, 1962, in Coteau. They made their home in Epping, Columbus, and Kenmare, ND, before building a home and raising their children, Mark and Wendy, near Lois’ mother, Clara, after her father, Walter’s, passing. Dale farmed small grains and together with his wife, Lois, raised Registered Polled Hereford Cattle on the family farm for several years. They both loved life on the farm, the ND prairie, and watching the pheasant, deer, and moose migrate through their yard. After his retirement from teaching, he sold insurance and financial related products for several years.
Dale was a member of Elmdale Lutheran Church, Niobe. He was a prior member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served on the church council for many years.
In recent years, Dale and Wendy lived in Kenmare during the winter months. On February 1, Dale left us to begin a new life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was reunited with his beloved wife, Lois, and other blessed family and friends.
His loving family includes: son, Mark (Gloria) Larsen and daughter, Wendy Larsen; grandchildren, Brad (Kristen) Jones and their children, Morgan and Kyler, Kim (Darin) Ziemer and their children, Adam, Caden, and Brynn, and Travis (Emily) Jones and their children Nolan and Griffin; brother, Gary (Gloria) Larsen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
