Boyd Hanson, 90, lifelong resident of Minot, died on Saturday, February 14, 2026 in a Minot hospital with his loving family at his side.

Boyd Victor Hanson was born on February 12, 1936 in Minot, ND to Carl and Ruth (Johnson) Hanson. He graduated from Minot High School in 1954. As a young adult he was employed by the Soo Line Railroad. Boyd married Phyllis Fjeld on June 13, 1958 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot where Boyd began his career as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service- Minot in 1965. He retired in 1997 following 32 years of service. Then, he was employed by Bethany Lutheran Church as their custodian for fourteen years and as a funeral assistant at Thomas Family Funeral Home.

Boyd was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church — Minot where he sang in the choir for over 60 years. Also, he served on the Church Council, volunteered countless hours and was a member of the Saturday Breakfast with the Boys group and a Bible Study. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Aerie. He was currently a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club where he volunteered countless hours at sporting events and was a 20+ year member of the Heritage Singers who was privileged to travel with the group to Norway, Austria, Germany and Washington D.C.

Boyd’s loving family includes his wife of 67 years: Phyllis; children: Vicki (Kevin Johnson) of Minot and Kent Hanson (Tanya) of Marysville WA; grandchildren: Brianna Johnson (Matthew Leier- Fiance) and Jordan Johnson (Faith Gorka), Brittany (Taylor) Wirtz and Blake Hanson (Taryn Ordwing); great grandchildren: Oskar Olaf Lewis Wirtz, Eloise Jo Marie Wirtz and Olivia Jean Leier; in-laws: Lori Hanson, Karen Hanson and Gloria Aberle.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Ruth Hanson; in-laws: Elmer and Thelma Fjeld; son: Kevin; siblings: Janet Teigen McKneely, Carlyn Hanson, David Hanson and Dan Hanson and brother-in-law: Leo Aberle.

Celebration of the Life of Boyd Hanson: Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church – Minot. A livestream of the service may be viewed by using the link in the website obituary.

Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park – Minot.

Visitation: Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church.
