Allen Gene Holter was born January 6, 1959, in Minot, ND, the youngest child to Glen and Phyllis (Peterson) Holter. At the time of his birth the family lived in Towner where they resided for a short time before moving to rural Minot. Allen attended Harrison country school and Minot High School, graduating in 1977. Allen was active in his local 4-H club, enjoyed snowmobiling, spending time at his grandparents Alfred and Julia Peterson’s farm in Carpio and had a love for all things horses. He was part of many trail rides and camp-outs with friends and family. He also competed in chuckwagon and chariot races for several years.
After high school Allen worked various jobs and met Rhonda Thompson, they were united in marriage in May 1979. Through this union they had three children, Betina, Dustin and Levi, whom he loved very much. Allen enjoyed spending time with his kids, taking them on many of his trucking trips, teaching them about horses and trail riding, going to rodeos, camping, hunting, fishing and watching his boys’ football games. He helped shape his kids’ lives through the many experiences and adventures that he shared with them and these are times that they will cherish forever.
Allen started his driving career with Getter Trucking out of Williston in 1979 and worked there until he moved. He lived in Kramer and Minot while working for himself and other companies over the years, running flatbeds, van and tanker trailers, driving through many states and provinces. Allen had the opportunity to work with his son Dustin at Circle Sanitation for a time before retiring in 2022 after 43 years of trucking. Allen often made time to visit with strangers in his career, making many friends along the way.
In 2003 Allen met his companion, Joann Mosser. They have enjoyed 23 years together spending time with friends and family, playing bingo, camping, cruising on the pontoon and hanging out around the campfire. Five years ago, Allen and Joann were gifted a tiny dog named Elsa. Allen and Elsa became best buddies and were inseparable ever since.
