Robert Irwin

Longtime Minot resident and prominent horseman, Robert Wilton Irwin, passed away on November 27, 2025, in Hot Springs, SD.

Robert was born to Alvin and Esther Irwin on October 8, 1932. He completed high school in Minot and immediately started a lifelong career with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He married Donna Fay Ehr in 1956. To this union, three children were born. Arnie “Poncho” Irwin and his wife, Patti, live in Buffalo, WY. Daughter Wanda and her spouse, Rory Brown, ranch in Edgemont, SD, and son Robert “John” and his spouse, Susie, ranch in Alexander, ND.

Robert instilled his love of horses and the outdoors in all his children and grandchildren. He had several “partnerships” with them on horses over the years and bought his last horse just five days before he passed!

Services will be held on December 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
