Oliver ‘Ole’ Skinningsrud, 94, longtime Carpio farmer, died Thursday, December 11, 2025 in a Minot nursing home.

Ole was born May 19, 1931, in Berthold, ND to Gilbert and Alma (Legrid) Skinningsrud. He was educated as a child like most from his era in country schools located near the family farm in Hartland Township. He graduated from Carpio High School in 1950.

Ole was drafted into the US Marine Corps on March 25, 1952. He served honorably and was discharged from active duty service on March 15, 1954. He returned to North Dakota and continued his education at L.B.I. School and North Dakota State University.

Ole returned to the farm in 1957. He would spend the next 59 years of his life dedicated to the land, where he raised small grains and cattle. He retired in 2016.

He was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church, where he served as a board and council member. Ole was also a member of the American Legion and Harley Owners Group (HOG). He had an interest in flying and enjoyed the open road on his Harley. He will be missed by all who were blessed to share in his life.

Ole joins his parents, sisters Inez, Elaine, and Thelma and brothers Gerald and Paul in Heaven.

He is survived by many good friends and neighbors on the farm.

Interment: St. John’s Cemetery, Carpio, ND

Visitation: Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio.
