Martin Myhra
Feb. 16, 1955-Dec. 10, 2025
Minot
Martin “Marty” Myhra, 70, died at his residence, December 10, 2025, under the care of hospice.
Marty was born February 16, 1955 in Devils Lake, ND to parents Richard and Madeline (Forsyth) Myhra. He grew up in North Dakota and Oregon before his family moved to Williston where he graduated from Williston High School in 1973.
Following high school, Marty was employed at various jobs in Williston and Fargo before moving to Minot in the late 70’s. He began working at the Minot Commission On Aging holding different positions until his retirement.
Marty was one of those people who didn’t just enter a room–he ARRIVED. Larger than life, endlessly silly and full of love, Marty never met a stranger–just people he hadn’t hugged yet. He greeted everyone with a booming hello and a great big hug, whether it was your first meeting or your hundredth. In Marty’s world, he had known you forever–and he never forgot you.
He grew up as the youngest of four boys, with three older brothers who gave him a lifetime of stories and inspiration. He absolutely lit up when they came to visit, and he cherished every chance he had to visit them in return. And while he loved them dearly, Marty was never shy about announcing when it was time for company to head home.
Marty was a storyteller through and through–some stories rooted in truth, others stretching into tall tale territory–but all of them delivered with such charm that you didn’t care where fact ended and imagination began. That was the magic of Marty.
He had an unwavering devotion to the Minnesota Viking (through thick and thin), a lifelong admiration for Elvis Presley, and loved playing pool at Second Story, with an accumulation of trophies over the years. Marty was also active in the Special Olympics and attended First Lutheran Church in Minot. Marty’s laughter, hugs and larger-than-life spirit will be deeply missed–but his stories will live on, probably getting a little bigger each time they are told.
Marty is survived by: his siblings Arnie (Lynn) Myhra of Tigard, OR, Rick Myhra of Dilworth, MN, and Douglas (Roxann) Myhra of Fargo, ND; Several cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Marty is also survived by his friends and second family at Kalix in Minot.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Roxane Myhra.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to the Diabetes Foundation and Minot Vocational Workshop.
