Larry Dean Hatfield, 60, of Billings, Montana, formerly of Minot, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, following a joyful visit with family.
Born in Scobey, Montana, Larry was raised in Flaxville, where he attended school. He attended Dickinson State College, where he met his wife, Julie Ann Fry, and later earned a degree in Mathematics from the University of North Dakota.
Larry worked as a computer programmer at Battelle National Laboratories and later for several technology firms, including BDM, eTelecare, and DMR. His work took him to Papua New Guinea before he moved his family to Minot in 1999. That same year, he began his own business and later became lead programmer for Easy Farm.
Music was one of Larry’s greatest joys. He played in bands including Daily News and Sneaky Wild Oats and loved sharing music with friends and family, especially through jam sessions with his children.
Larry is survived by his wife, Julie Fry of Billings; his children Angela (Brian) Brown of Seattle, Ryan Hatfield of Fargo, and Michael (Carissa) Hatfield of Minot; his grandchildren; and his siblings, Linda Tieg, Robert Hatfield, Jacqueline Moore, Keith Hatfield, Kevin Hatfield, and Lance Hatfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
A celebration of life will be held December 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Laurel, Montana.
