Judith “Judy” Schaefer, 84, Minot, died Monday, November 3, 2025, in a Minot assisted living facility.
Judith Ann Schaefer was born on December 7, 1940, in Minot, ND to William and Stella (Sjoberg) Schaefer. She was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from St. Leo’s High School in 1958.
Judy proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1960 while studying nursing at St. Francis School of Nursing. After graduating in 1961, she began her career as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot.
Judy was once married to James Wilson. From this union, they were blessed with three children: Thomas, Michael and David.
Upon her discharge, Judy returned to Minot and went back to St. Joseph’s Hospital as a nurse for 10 years. In 1981, Judy furthered her career and received her credentials as a Family Nurse Practitioner. While in Maine she received her P.A. credentials and then worked as a physician assistant along with her continued service in the Army Reserves. She returned to Minot in 2001 and made a career in Home Health Nursing until retiring in 2008.
Judy was very active in nursing related organizations, volunteering for the Red Cross and the Retired Senior Group. She also belonged to physician assistant organizations through her time in Maine and was a long-standing service member in the Army Reserves.
Judy loved to travel and could often be found reading or journaling. She also found joy in walking, biking and swimming. She will be remembered for the beautiful music she played on the harp.
Judy is survived by her sons Thomas (Lisa) Wilson, Minot and Michael (Melissa) Wilson, Milwaukee; seven grandchildren: Carlie Collins, Maria Wilson, Tessa Wilson, Cody (Nicki) Wilson, Kasey (Andrew) Shank, Olivia Wilson and Dylan Wilson; five great-grandchildren: Cohen, Nicholas, Bruce, Nora and Teddy; siblings William (Diane) Schaefer, Des Moines, IA, Gary (DiAnn) Schaefer, Minot, Joseph (Colleen) Schaefer, Phoenix, AZ, Kathy (Bob) Corbett, Maplewood, MN and Daniel (Linda) Schaefer, Minot.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, son David Wilson, daughter Teashia Ann Hargis, and brother Kenneth Schaefer.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Visitation: Wednesday, November 19th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary: 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to the Minot Al-Anon Family Groups, which were an influential part of her life and near and dear to her heart.
