Heidi Tank

July 2, 1972-Nov. 1, 2025

Granville

Heidi Renee Tank, 53, of Rugby, North Dakota, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2025, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, surrounded by family.

Heidi was born on July 2, 1972, in Minot to Erick and Connie (Ness) Thompson. She grew up on the family farm near Granville, where her love for animals, the land, and hard work first took root. Heidi spent her life doing what she loved–farming/ranching, keeping her hands busy, and caring for the people around her.

Heidi married and had her son Cole. After her first marriage, she found her life-long dance partner–Roger Tank. The two married in Rugby on September 15, 2001, and together it became the mighty five (Roger, Heidi, Jessica, Josh, and Cole).

Heidi worked at Rugby Manufacturing for almost three decades. When the workday ended, she traded welding for farming, gardening, and canning.

Her cabin near Granville was one of her greatest joys–a place where memories were made. Whether having soup after a cold day of deer hunting, watching the grandkids play in an old water tank on a hot day, or celebrating birthdays surrounded by family.

She was mostly the host of get togethers. When she wasn’t hosting, she managed to show up 30 minutes early to everything she was invited to.

Heidi filled every spare minute–cross stitching, antiquing (“junking”), or a new macramé project. She also loved hitting the road with Roger on the motor cycles.

Heidi is survived by her husband, Roger; her children, Jessica (Derick Belle) Tank of Langdon, Joshua (Katlyn) Tank of Rugby, and Cole Genetzky of Minneapolis, MN; her grandchildren, Logan and Shiloh Tank, and Aubrey Belle; her parents, Erick and Connie Thompson of Granville; her sisters, Jackie Strand of Bismarck, Wanda Bachmeier of Granville, and Teresa Knutson of Park Rapids, MN; her mother-in-law, Doris Tank; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father-in-law.

Heidi will be remembered for her canning, her smile, and her knack for making everyone feel cared for. She leaves behind love, hard work, and memories.

A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Rugby on Saturday, November 8th at 10:30 A.M.
