In honor of Matthew, the family is asking you to dress in casual, flannel attire to the service.

Matthew Rodger Sogge was born December 23, 1977 to Rodger and Alice (Johnson) Sogge in Devils Lake, ND. He was raised and educated in Minnewaukan, where he was active in 4-H, football, and basketball. After graduating high school with the class of 1996, Matt continued his education at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, earning himself an Associate’s Degree in Auto Body Repair. Matt was united in marriage to Kristy Sebelius in 2009, welcoming a daughter, Macie. Matt and Kristy later separated but remained friends and great coparents for Macie.

Matt began working in Auto Body before transitioning to BNSF Railroad for seven years. He re-entered the auto body workforce, managing ABRA Auto Body in Minot until his passing. Matt was a man of resilience, generosity, kindness, determination and a hard worker that split his time between working in Minot and returning home to Minnewaukan to farm. Matt had a multitude of passions in life; derby, farming, renovating houses, camping, cars, snowmobiles, jet skis, side-by-sides. Matt was most known for his humorous personality, his ability to say one-liners and quotes from comedy movies was truly unmatched.

His greatest pastime was spent with the light of his life, Macie. Together they took annual trips to the New Years Minnesota Vikings game, watched endless reruns of their favorite movies, made weekend trips back to the farm, and played multiple rounds of board games, pool, thumb wars, and “too slow” in which Matt claimed he “always won.” Matt and Macie shared an undeniable bond filled with constant laughter, jokes, and love, as well as undeniable shared looks and personalities. Daughter-like-father couldn’t be truer, except for when it came to Macie’s smarts, Matt always said it never came from him nor Kristy, but he was always immensely proud of all her accomplishments. Matt’s presence as a father and life lessons will severely be missed.

Matt’s lifelong love of dogs was well-known, and he cherished the time spent with his faithful companions, Moki and Rosie. Above all, Matt truly enjoyed being with his friends and family-often accompanied by a cold adult beverage. Matt’s infectious laughter, memorable stories, and quick-witted jokes will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Matt is survived by his beloved daughter, Macie of Minot; mother, Alice Sogge of Maddock, ND; siblings, Wayne Sogge of New Rockford, ND, Sherri (Randy) Thompson of Minnewaukan, ND, Kipp (Yvonne) Sogge of Georgia; multiple nieces and nephews; as well as his bonus family, Kristy (Wade) Sebelius of Mandan, ND; Andrea (Jon) Sebelius of Minot, ND; Darlene and Jeremy Sebelius of Leeds, ND.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodger Sogge, grandparents, Alfred (Marie) Sogge and Wallace (Ruth Williams) Johnson, dear friend, David Sebelius, and his loving dogs, Daisie, Lucie, and Bessie.

Arrangements are with the Nelson Funeral Home of Minnewaukan, ND.
