Laverne Erdman, 68, Minot and formerly of Dickinson passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025 in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Laverne Dassinger was born on December 5, 1956 in Dickinson, ND to Mathias and Hilda (Rieckman) Dassinger. She was educated at the Garden School in Gladstone, ND through the eighth grade. She graduated from Dickinson High School in 1975. Laverne continued her education at the University of Mary in Bismarck and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing in 1979.
Laverne married William “Bill” Erdman on July 21, 1979 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dickinson. They made their home in Burlington, ND from 1979-1982, Minot, ND from 1982-1985, San Francisco, CA from 1985-1989, Ypsilanti, MI from 1989-1993 before returning to Minot in 1993. Laverne was employed by St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1979-1982 and served as a Registered Nurse in the U.S. Army Reserve for the 311th Evacuation Hospital – Minot from January of 1981 to July of 1982. She was a veteran of the Gulf War era. In 1990 she resigned her commission as a Captain in the Army Reserve. More recently she had been employed by Manor Care from 1995-1998 and Trinity Hospital’s Addiction Unit from 1998-2011 where she retired.
Laverne was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Minot where she held various offices within the LWML, served on the church council and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and held various offices. She was a prayer warrior and especially enjoyed reading, crafts and visiting with her grandkids and neighbors.
Laverne’s loving family includes her husband of 46 years, Bill; a daughter, Lisa Corey and her husband Philip of St. Thomas, USVI, a daughter, Kristi Drost and her husband Nathan of Old Town, ME and a son, Matthew Erdman of Minot, ND and his fiancée, Brittany Zappone; grandchildren: Amie, Angie, Addison, Aurora, Colby, Carter, Cadence and Kohner; great-grandchildren: Everest and Noah; a sister, Linda Mathern and her husband Ron of Bismarck, ND, a brother, Gerald “Gary” Dassinger of Gladstone, ND and a sister, Loraine (Dassinger) Erdman and her husband Mark of Gladstone, ND and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents and by her grandchild Kenadi Zappone.
