Charles Owen Graetz, 90, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.
He was born on June 20, 1935, the only child of Leonard and Florence Graetz. He lived in and attended school in Hansboro, ND, then completed his education at the University of North Dakota with a degree in engineering.
His career was spent with the Department of Transportation, culminating in serving as district engineer for District 4 in Minot, one of 8 districts in the state. As district engineer, he was responsible for overseeing the team that maintained state and federal highways, bridges, roadways, and all highway construction in District 4. A quiet man, he reserved his words for business matters; his actions were always intelligent, intentional, and focused. He retired from the State Highway Department in 2000.
Charles married Marjorie (Stickney) Moses on June 3, 1985, and they made their home in Minot. They welcomed a blended family of 7 children: Charles with two sons and a daughter, Gordon, Richard, and Sandra; Marjorie with two boys and two girls, Vern Dale, Scott, Susan, and Lee Ann. A man of varied interests that included flying and boating, he especially enjoyed the time spent in the fall on many hunting trips with his sons and grandsons. Charles and Marge made automobile trips across the United States every year to visit with children and grandchildren, to celebrate birthdays, graduations, and special events. They held hands everywhere they went; their love for each other and their children was remarkable. He was truly happiest spending all of his days with Marge. They were married for 31 years, before Marge’s passing in 2016.
Charles is survived by his son, Gordon; daughter, Sandra; his step-children, Susan, Vern Dale, and Lee Ann; and a wonderful family of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in his passing by his wife, Marjorie; son, Richard; and step-son, Scott.
No services are planned.
Interment: Our families will be honoring the memory of Charles and Marge when they are laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
