Betty Larson

Jan. 9, 1944-Oct. 15, 2025
Velva
Betty Larson, 81, Velva, ND, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Betty Lou Dorothy Dockter was born January 9, 1944, the daughter of August and Marie (Morlang) Dockter, in Velva, ND. She was raised and educated in Bergen, graduating in 1962.
Betty married Gerald Dale Larson on July 22, 1963, at Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva. They made their home on the farm east of Voltaire. They were blessed with four daughters, Carmen, Patty, D’Ann, and Sally. Betty was a loving farm wife and mother, keeping the home running. As a mom, she was loving, caring, compassionate mixed with a little bit of spice. She was always a wonderful source of great advice for her daughters. Betty was blessed with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was incredibly proud to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to smoosh on them and give plenty of hugs. She maintained a close bond with her grandchildren and as they grew into adults, they too received her wise advice.
Betty worked as a social worker at Souris Valley Care Center and then worked in the deli at the C-Store until retiring in 2006.
She was a member of Hjerdal Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and VHS Music Mother.
Betty enjoyed being a part of a bowling league, cooking, puzzles, singing, reading, and playing Pinochle but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
Betty had an infectious laugh, one that you couldn’t help but laugh right along with her. She loved to be around people and was a social butterfly, having the ability to visit with anyone. Betty will be incredibly missed.
Her loving family includes: husband of 62 years, Gerald; daughters, Carmen (Jonathan) Briggs, Patty (Robert) O’Shea, D’Ann (John) Johnson, Sally (Mark) Anderson; grandchildren, Kyle Briggs, Taylor (Molly) O’Shea, Erin (Ty) Bruner, Cassie (fiancé, Brandon Ballantyne) O’Shea, Tricia (Daimen) Bibeault, Gunnar (Lindsey) Johnson, Robert Anderson, and Brady Anderson;
4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Delores Bohlender and Marion Killian; brothers, Herbert Dockter, Clifford (Bonnie) Dockter; brother-in-law, Ben Chandler; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; siblings, Rueben (Marge) Dockter, Roy (Alverta) Dockter, Alma Dockter, Willie Dockter, Erwin (Linda) Dockter, Ralph (Doris) Dockter, Clarence Dockter, Marjorie Chandler; sister-in-law, Kathy Dockter; brothers-in-law, Marvin Bohlender, and Dennis Killian.
