Arlene Buechler, 91, formerly of rural Sawyer died on Friday, September 19, 2025 in a Garrison nursing home. She entered the heavenly kingdom surrounded by her loving family.

Arlene Mabel was born November 6, 1933 in Newman Township of Ward County near Sawyer, ND to Leo and Helen (Jantz) Kassner. She was raised and educated on the family farm and attended country school. As a young adult she was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Kresge Dollar Store and the Buechler Dairy Farm.

Arlene married Ruben Buechler on September 17, 1950 at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Sawyer. They made their home on the Buechler Family Farm. After short stays in Mandan and Watford City the family returned to the Buechler Family Farm in 1961 where they operated a dairy farm for 40 years, raised commercial beef for twenty years and owned and operated the Doboy Dealership in Minot for many years. Ruben died on April 5, 2021. Most recently, Arlene had resided at The View in Minot prior to moving to the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison in April of 2025.

Arlene took pride in her work on the farm, she worked very hard to help keep everything in order, from feeding baby calves to helping combine the crops, there wasn’t any job she couldn’t help with. She was very proud of the fact that she had helped build their home, alongside her dad and husband Ruben. She could always be found cooking, baking or canning food they had grown in their garden. She was thrilled to have friends or family stop by and would have coffee on and a home-made treat waiting. Holidays and get-togethers with family were something that Arlene truly cherished.

Arlene was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church -Sawyer and its Ladies Aide as well as serving as Treasurer of the Newman Township Board. She especially enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking and assisting her husband with the duties on the farm.

Arlene’s loving family includes her children: Peggy Hilson of Minot, Connie (Wade) Guttormson and Mark (Phyllis) Buechler all of Sawyer; grandchildren: Jonathan (Amber) Larson, Stacy Larson, Jamie (Amy) Guttormson, Brandi (Eric) White, Levi (Whittney) Buechler, Amber (Tyler) Emerson, Sara (Cameron) Schilken, Erin Guttormson, Brittney Buechler and Michael Buechler; (13) great grandchildren; sister: Ardella Score of Minot; brother-in-law: Richard Crow and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Dean, granddaughter: Melissa, sister: Shirley Brevig and in-laws: Melvin Score, Leo Buechler, Agnes Cook and Marieann Crow.

Funeral Service: Monday, September 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church- Sawyer.

Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park- Minot.

Visitation: Sunday from 3 to 5 in Thomas Family Funeral Home- Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
