Theodore “Ted” Mitzel, 86 of Rugby died Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

He was born on July 1, 1939 in Rugby, North Dakota to Fred and Elizabeth (Welk) Mitzel. On June 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to Christine Wiest at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selz, North Dakota.

Ted is survived by his daughters, Maria (Eric) Boren of West Fargo and Melissa (Ron) Ripplinger of Willow City; grandchildren; great granddaughter; sisters, Betty Summers of Estancia, New Mexico, Mary Jane (Melvin) Schmaltz of Devils Lake and Dorothy (Chuck) Hooker of Rugby.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary, vigil prayer service and sharing beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
