Phyllis Allen, 89, Minot, ND, formerly of Kenmare, ND, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Trinity Homes.
Phyllis Catherine Elliott was born January 3, 1936, the daughter of John W. and Rada (Lewis) Elliott, in Salisbury, Maryland. She was raised and educated in Salisbury.
She married Harold L. Nelson on March 24, 1951, in Salisbury, Maryland. They operated Shore Gas Appliance in Seaford, Delaware before returning to the Tolley area in May 1955, where they farmed. In 1992 they moved into Kenmare. Phyllis was a home healthcare worker and then worked at the Baptist Home as a cook. Harold passed away November 26, 1998.
Phyllis married Vernon Allen Jr. on December 23, 2006, in Minot. They made their home in Minot. Vernon passed away June 13, 2022.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Aid.
She enjoyed sewing and reading. She liked to listen to music.
Her loving family includes: children, Phil Nelson, Ronnie Nelson, Jason Nelson, Cathy (Jay) Ackerman, Angie (Mike) McCune; grandchildren, Brady (Noah) Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Ashley (Justin) Phillips, Cody (Kayla) Ackerman, Nicole Ackerman, Cameron McCune; great-grandchildren, Kenadee and Jamison Nelson, Veda and Maisy Phillips, Colter Ackerman;
brother, John “Billy” William Jr; sister, Betty Morris; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Harold; husband of 16 years, Vernon Jr.
Funeral: Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: are preferred to the American Legion Auxiliary.
