Elvera Petz, 90, Ryder, ND, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in a Minot nursing home.

Elvera Jeanette Werner was born on October 1, 1934, daughter of Ernest and Jennie (Peterson) Werner in Minot, ND. She was raised on the family farm South of Plaza and graduated from Makoti High School.

Elvera was united in marriage to Jerome “Jerry” Petz on June 9, 1952, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Makoti, ND. They made their home in Ryder and together they raised five amazing children. Jerry passed away on October 1, 1990. Elvera continued to live in Ryder, where she served as Postmaster until the age of 72, when she retired. She continued living in Ryder until she moved to Edgewood Assisted Living in Minot, ND.

Her loving family includes: Children, Kimberly (Donald) Cartier, Steve (Wanda) Petz, Virginia (Jason) Sjol, Laurie (Chip) Stuart, and Tamara (Valentine) Suchor; 14 grandchildren and their spouses; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Elvera was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerome “Jerry” Petz; siblings, Harold, Verna, Alice, Marlys, Lloyd, and Barbara.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at 9:30 a.m. with Visitation to follow.

Graveside Service: Wednesday at 1:30 pm at Rosehill Cemetery, Ryder, ND.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry, Minot or donor’s choice.
