Minot
Alice M. Bachmeier, 87, Minot, ND, formerly of Berthold, ND, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at Prairie Home and Health in Mohall.
Alice Margaret Volk was born June 28, 1938, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Schnelbach) Volk, in Rugby, ND. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school through the 8th grade near Karlsruhe, ND.
She married Ben Bachmeier on November 19, 1960, in Karlsruhe, ND. They made their home at the Leach Ranch in Towner. They later moved to Minot and eventually settled in Berthold where they raised their seven children. Alice and Ben owned and operated the B & A Bar in Berthold, ND, for fourteen years. She also drove school bus. They sold the bar in 1987.
Alice was a strong resilient woman who was always finding ways to better herself. In 1987, she completed her GED and began attending Minot State University. In 1991, at 53 years old, she graduated with a degree in Social Work.
She then began her career with Edgewood Vista Memory Care Unit. She retired in 2014.
Alice’s life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. She attended daily mass and could often be found praying the rosary, listening to Christian music and watching her favorite shows on EWTN. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where she was member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She is a former member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Berthold.
Alice stayed busy crocheting afghan blankets for her family and friends. She, along with her husband, Ben, grew immaculate vegetable gardens and canned enough to have for produce throughout the year. Her dill pickles with carrots were a family favorite.
Traveling in her later life provided Alice with immense pleasure. She went on many adventures with her brother Gerald and dear friend, Gloria Aberle. Some of the highlights included visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City and Vatican City.
Alice spent her entire life caring for others. As the oldest of 14 siblings, she was always surrounded by children who depended on her. She was a natural, providing love, kindness and compassion to the people in her life.
Alice’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She was always finding ways to enrich their lives. Her grandchildren spent endless hours with her. She took them on many adventures. Whether it was to the swimming pool or a family event in Fargo, there was never too many or too small of a vehicle to stop her from including everyone. She even spent time caring for her great grandchildren.
Alice will be deeply missed, but we are grateful for the many years we had together- the lessons she taught us, the love she shared with us and the memories we will always cherish.
