Mercedes Ostby

Mercedes “Mercy” Ruth Ostby, 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 in Renton, WA. Mercy was born October 24, 1936 to Carl and Lillian (Meyer) Ostby. She grew up in Douglas ND and graduated from Douglas High School. Mercy continued her education at Minot State Teachers College and taught at a country school. She later relocated to Auburn WA and taught journalism until retiring.

Her surviving family includes AlJean (Will) Brule, Magnolia TX, brothers, Roger Ostby, Minot, ND and Rodney Ostby, Rolla, ND; sisters in law, Helen Ostby, Dickinson, ND and Kay Ostby, Douglas, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mercy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert Ostby, Richard Ostby, Ronald Ostby, and Duane Ostby; sisters, Yvonne Stack, Lorraine Johnson, Aretha Quinn and Arline Tortelli.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, ND.
