Shane Richeson, 51, Minot, died Tuesday, June 18, 2025 in Bismarck.
Shane Warren Richeson was born on Dec. 25, 1973 in Anchorage, Alaska to Joseph and Cheryl (Balerud) Richeson.
The Richeson family returned to Minot in 1976. Shane attended school in Des Lacs Burlington, where he excelled in basketball and football. Shane graduated with the class of 1993.
He continued his education and football career at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton from 1993-1994 and then NDSU from 1995-1997, making his debut as a defensive tackle for the Bison but served in many roles as the immediate back up at every defensive line position.
While in college Shane, his brother Chad and many other football players worked at McLaughlin’s RV and Marine sharing many good times and developing life long relationships after the last whistle.
Shane was once married to Tina Johnson. They made their home in Fargo. Shane worked at Nash Finch in Fargo until starting his career first as a plumber and later transitioning to pipefitter with the Local 300 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.
Shane will be remembered for his competitive and protective spirit, loyalty to his friends and his sense of humor.
Shane is survived by his mother; Cheryl, Minot brother; Chad (Jodee) Richeson, Minot nephews; Cole and Luke Richeson, Minot, aunts and uncles; include Daryl (Mary Lou) Balerud, Bruce Balerud, Donald (Lynette) Richeson, Julie Julson, Mary Ann Kraft, Lloyd (Verdell) Richeson, John (LeRae) Richeson, Tony ‘Dude’ Richeson, Marcella Dibble, and Margaret Giese along with many cousins.
Shane was preceded in death by his father; Joseph Richeson, grandparents; Robert and Margaret (Gieser) Richeson and Lynn and Ann (Kraft) Balerud, aunts; Kimberly Balerud, Raetha Evanson, and Deb Forman and uncles; Danny Kraft, Curt Balerud, Kelly Balerud, Bryon Julson and Dennis Kraft.
Service to Remember Shane Richeson: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington.

Visitation: Monday, June 23, 2025 from 5 until 7 p.m at Thomas Family Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred to Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington or Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports, Minot.
