Hilman Andor Anderson, 82, Center Point, Iowa, formerly of Makoti, N.D., passed away April 19, 2025, at a Cedar Rapids, IA, hospice care facility.
Hilman Andor Anderson was born Aug. 14, 1942, to Andor and Maggie (Larson) Anderson of rural Makoti, N.D.
Hilman graduated from Makoti High School in 1960. He attended UND in Grand Forks, N.D., and graduated from Minot State College in 1965 with a degree in mathematics.
In Dec. of that year, he married Phyllis Dobrinski. They moved to Rugby, N.D., where he taught senior high math for three years.
In 1968, he received a National Science Foundation grant to attend graduate school at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D., and earned his master’s degree in mathematics.
While living in Vermillion, their daughter, Melissa, was born. He continued his teaching career in Garrison, where their son, David, was born.
In 1981, he resigned teaching, and they moved to Makoti, so he could start farming the land his grandfather homesteaded in 1908.
He worked in income tax in Minot, during the winter. After he retired from farming, he and Phyllis moved to Center Point, Iowa, to be closer to family.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, their children: Melissa (Dave Money) Anderson and David Anderson; siblings: Elaine Johnson and Leroy Anderson; granddaughters: Samantha Anderson and Emily Anderson; brothers-in-law, Everett Dobrinski and Richard Johnson; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Stein and Peggy Dobrinski; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Andor and Maggie Anderson; stepmother, Emma Anderson; nephew, Jesse Stein and brother-in-law, Arnold Stein.
Celebration of Life Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Makoti, N.D.
Interment: St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Makoti
In lieu of floral memorials, the family would prefer memorial donations to Parkinson’s Foundation or a worthy cause of their choice.
