Thomas “Tom” Alexander Rystedt, 81, Powers Lake, ND, peacefully passed away surrounded by his beloved family on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at The View in Minot, North Dakota.
Born on Aug. 3, 1943 in Powers Lake, Tom was the youngest of three sons born to LeRoy and Florence Rystedt.
He grew up on the family farm near Battleview, where he learned the value of hard work and community.
He attended school in Powers Lake, forming lifelong friendships and developed a love for basketball before graduating in 1961.
His faith was an important part of his life, as he was baptized, confirmed and remained a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Battleview.
On March 27, 1965 Tom was united in marriage to Linda Barmoen, the love of his life.
They raised their five children on the second-generation family farm, where Tom found his true joy in farming, raising cattle, and sharing his love for farming with the next generation.
His love for his children and grandchildren was evident in the way he interacted and spoke so highly of each and every one of them.
Beyond his commitment to his family, Tom was engaged in the community as part of the Powers Lake School Board, Burke Farm Service Agency County Committee, Burke County Township Board and more.
Tom found happiness and pleasure in camping, fishing, hunting, and playing a game of pinochle with family and friends.
Tom and Linda moved permanently off the family farm and into their home in Powers Lake in 1994. They also enjoyed friends, warm sunshine and being outdoors for a few winters in Mesa, Ariz.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many.
Tom is survived by loving children; Brian Rystedt, Brenda (Stacey) Sem, Bonnie (Scott) Zundel, Roberta (Mitch) Pride, and Paul (Danielle) Rystedt; his brother, Jim (Norma) Rystedt; 16 cherished grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a many great friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda; his parents, LeRoy and Florence Rystedt; his brother, Dennis Rystedt and sister-in-law, Una Fay Rystedt.
There will be a public visitation held at the Springan Stevenson Funeral Home in Stanley, from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Family Service to follow and begin at 5 p.m.
Tom’s Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake.
Pastor Pauline Crowder will officiate.
Thomas will be laid to rest at the Battleview Cemetery in Battleview, North Dakota.
