Minot
Sandra Wetzel, 85, Minot, began her new life in eternity with Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, following her 14-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Sandra Lee Wetzel was born Sept. 29, 1939, in Minot, to Milo and Vera (Nimmins) Page. She was raised and educated in Minot, graduated from Minot High School in 1957 and from Minot State Teachers College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
Sandra married Rodney Wetzel on Aug. 23, 1962. They made their home in Minot where she taught kindergarten at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church/Good Shepherd School for six years prior to accepting a teaching position in the Minot Public Schools.
She taught kindergarten or first grade at Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln Elementary Schools for 23 years. Sandra was a member of the Minot, North Dakota, and National Education Associations. She retired from teaching in 2001. She and Rodney then spent the winter months in Mesa, Ariz.
Faith in God was very important to Sandra and evident in all aspects of her life. She was always happy and loved to make others happy. She especially enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking, but her greatest joy was entertaining family and friends
Sandra was a long-time active member of First Baptist Church in Minot. She also faithfully attended Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau during their many summers at Lake Metigoshe.
Sandra’s loving family includes her husband of 62 years, Rodney of Minot; children, Blair (Brenda) Wetzel of Edmond, Okla., and Polly (Todd) Sivertson of Minot; grandchildren, Megan (Mike) and Eden Schultz (great-granddaughter) of Edmond, Okla., and Greg (Olivia) Wetzel of Omaha, Neb.; sister, Puffi (Dan) Cushing of Fargo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Craig Page.
On a personal note, we would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Mapleview for their care and attention when Mom was first admitted to a memory care facility nearly nine years ago. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to start this journey.
Special thanks to Unsung Ringuette of Unsung Assisted Living who loved and cared for Mom the past five years as well as Pastor Ken and wife, Jan, for their faithful weekly visits, love, and assistance. We are so grateful and blessed to have had such tremendous support as we walked this long difficult road of Alzheimer’s disease.
