Roger Wheeling

March 11, 1954-May 8, 2025

Jamestown

The family of Roger Wheeling, of Jamestown, ND, is saddened to announce his passing on May 8, 2025, at the age of 71 years.

Roger Nolan Wheeling was born on March 11, 1954 in Minot, ND, the son of Roslyn and Nolan Wheeling. He attended Minot High School and graduated in 1972. His first career was spent working in his father’s business, Nolan’s Surge, Inc., in Minot. Roger was also a proud and public advocate for individuals who struggled with mental illness in North Dakota, and later worked for Rehab Services, Inc. There he assisted individuals in overcoming their own obstacles, and helped keep them active, visible, and productive members of our community. Roger loved to chat and never met a stranger – his favorite part of both jobs was interacting with and helping other people. He did not give up chatting in his retirement years, and his friends, family, and neighbors will feel the absence of his regular phone calls and visits.

Roger will be lovingly missed by his daughters, Jennifer (Nathan) Anderson and Jill Wheeling; his children’s mother and lifelong friend Sherry (Lee) Wheeling; beloved grandchildren Kaydra Weigel, Cole Anderson, and Claire Anderson; his brothers Jerry Wheeling and Richard (Sandi) Wheeling; nieces and nephews Tiffany (Jason) Schmelz, Chad (Kayla) Wheeling, Tyler Wheeling, Laura (Brice Jurban) Wheeling, Ryan Wheeling; great-nephews Jayden (Avery) Wheeling and Owen Wheeling; great-nieces Autumn Wheeling, Alma Wheeling, and Adelyn Wheeling; mother-in-law Lorraine (Sanda) Lee; brother-in-law Mark Lee; and numerous extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Roger was welcomed to heaven by family members and friends who were awaiting his arrival, including his parents Nolan and Roslyn Wheeling; his sisters Julie Huffman and Jayne Wheeling; former father-in-law but forever friend Abner Lee; and sister-in-law Janelle (Lee) Wheeling. We are sure the many devoted dogs he loved throughout his life were also there to greet him.

A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. The Minnesota Vikings will be serving as honorary pallbearers so they can let him down one last time.

In lieu of flowers, Roger would have appreciated a donation to the RSI Marla & Tony Kulig Scholarship Program, or your local Meals on Wheels service.

“You’ve got to keep going. Work on today, and think about tomorrow. There are people who live without hope – I’ve done it – but there’s always hope.” – Roger Wheeling
