Raymond Mock
Sept. 12, 1941-May 2, 2025
Minot
Raymond Elwood Mock, 83, of Minot, took the checkered flag in life on May 2, 2025, passing away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on September 12, 1941, in Ryder, North Dakota to Otto and Hazel (Link) Mock. At age 10, his family relocated to Everett, Washington before eventually settling in Minot, where Ray lived most of his life. He began his career with Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroad and later joined Ernie’s Concrete, where he worked for 43 years until his retirement.
On August 30, 1961, Raymond married Judy Hiller. Together, they built a marriage that spanned more than six decades, filled with love, laughter, hard work, and countless memories. They raised two children, Carlene (Troy) Huber of Minot and Rick Mock of Minot.
Raymond was a man of steady character and tireless work ethic. He was mechanically gifted, resourceful, and always ready to lend a hand or offer a fix–usually with the help of WD-40, duct tape, or baling wire. Whether working in his garage, tending to a project at the track, or simply having coffee with a friend, Ray found purpose in staying active and connected to the people and passions that meant the most to him.
A lifelong supporter of stock car racing, Raymond was an owner, crew chief, and pitman who took immense pride in preparing and maintaining his beloved #25 race cars. While others took command in the driver’s seat, Raymond was the master of his domain: everything between the bumper and the firewall. He was a devoted member of the Nodak Race Club and found great joy in spending race nights surrounded by family and friends.
Raymond was also a longtime and active member of Bread of Life Lutheran Church. He served with close friends and fellow members as a handyman, usher, and even an extra set of hands in the fellowship kitchen. His quiet faith was evident in the way he showed up–consistently, generously, and without need for recognition.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter Carlene (Troy) Huber; son Rick Mock; grandson Corey Mock; great-grandchildren Emmett Lagerquist, Grayson Mock, Camdon Mock, Josephene Mock, and Laiklyn Rey; and sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Mike Hoffer, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hazel Mock; brothers Gerald “Jerry” Mock and Robert “Bobby” Mock; sister Kay Strand; infant daughter Julia Ann Mock; and granddaughter Amanda Huber.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Trinity CancerCare Center and Trinity Hospice for their compassion, care, and support throughout Ray’s illness–with special appreciation to his oncologist, Dr. Moayed Ibrahim, for his exceptional care and kindness.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home in Minot. A celebration of Raymond’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park.
