Marshall Hill, 92, Layton, UT, formerly of Minot, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Utah.

Marshall Jean Hill was born July 20, 1932, the son of George and Clarabell (Hill) Kettery, in Alexandria, IN. He was raised and educated in Alexandria.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1947 and later transferred to the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for more than 21 years and was honorably discharged in December 1969.

Marshall married Elsie Gray on May 18, 1951, at the Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Ill. They made their home in Austin, TX. During the eighteen years of their married life as members of the Air Force, time was spent in Germany, Puerto Rico, Nebraska, and Minot. In June 1974 the family moved to Kenmare. They were blessed with eight children, David, Jeffery, Veda Jo, Jaelann, Valorie Jean, Marcie Dee, Lydia Anne, Donna Marie. They were married 25 years. Elsie passed away October 4, 1976.

Marshall married Sheryl Ramsdell on November 19, 1976, in Minot. Marshall owned and operated Vanguard Photography and The Sound in Kenmare from 1973-1980. He also taught at Kenmare High School. In 1980 they moved from Kenmare to Minot. While they lived in Minot, they operated Grand Studio of Photography. They owned a cabin at Mouse River Park where they spent many summer days with their children and friends. They were blessed with two children, Liahona and Sariah. They were married for 43 years. Sheryl passed away November 13, 2019.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1st ward in Minot where he taught Seminary and Institute Classes and held other leadership positions. He volunteered at the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge for over 30 years. He also volunteered at the Dakota Territory Air Museum where he was the curator. He was a member of the Minot American Legion and the Lions Club in Ruthville.

Marshall loved to hunt and fish. He was passionate about photography and was incredibly talented. He also enjoyed flying.

His loving family includes: children, David (Leslie) Hill, Jeffery (Susan) Hill, Veda Jo (Michael) House, Jaelann (Fred) Anderson, Valorie Jean (William) Spanogle, Marcia Dee (David) Mergenthaler, Lydia Hirshfeld, Donna Marie Sivertson, Sariah Lynn Sierra; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 25 years, Elsie; wife of 43 years, Sheryl; daughter, Liahona Hill Corbett; sisters, Paula Beeson and Marjorie Kettery; brother, Ronald Kettery; grandson, Kevin Mergenthaler.

Memorial Service: Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, north Minot.

Interment: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. The burial will take place at 3:00 p.m.
