Loretta Martinsen, 78, of Garrison, passed away on May 22, 2025, surrounded by family at Missouri Slope care center, Bismarck, ND.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church, Garrison, ND.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, ND.
Loretta Helen (Johnson) Martinsen was born in Minot at Trinity Hospital, the third child of Lloyd and Olive (Melom) Johnson. She was baptized at the First Lutheran Church, Ruso, ND, confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict, ND. Loretta attended school in Ruso until the 6th grade, then went to school in Butte 7th through high school. She was employed in the summer at Marie’s Café in Butte, and Basserts Fairway in Velva.
Lorretta married Melvin Martinsen on March 1, 1964. They moved to Sawyer, ND and the next move was to Garrison. Loretta worked in the Garrison Hospital from 1967-1976. In 1976 she went to work at Rensch Farm Store for 38 years. She also worked as the bookkeeper for Garrison Golf Course for 20 years.
She enjoyed doing crosswords, jigsaw puzzles,and crocheting. Loretta also enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing in her earlier years.
Loretta is survived by her daughters, Corrina (LeRoy Goebel) Martinsen, Sheila (Mark) Brunner; grandchildren, Stephanie (Tyler) Lacher, Kelcie Feeney, Steven (Sarah) Brunner, Kyle, Karisa and Kaden Goebel; great-grandchildren, Sydney and TJ Lacher, Elizabeth, Madelyn, and Leo Brunner; sisters, Marlys Sundbakken, Eleanor Berg; brothers, Wayne Johnson, Glenn (Debby) Johnson; sister-in-law, Diane Johnson, Judy Sloboden, Andi (Eric) Klanderman, Myrna Undlin, Joyce Martinsen; brother-in-law, DeLane Kritsky, Tim Schatz.
Loretta is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; parents; grandparents; brother, Milfred Johnson; sisters, Marlene Kritsky, Doreen Schatz; brother-in-law, Larry Sundbakken, LaVerne Berg, Raymond Sloboden, Ron Undlin, Galen Martinsen, Leland Martinsen; sister-in-law, Gayle Martinsen, Tenley Johnson; mother and father in-law; and very good friend, Jim Iverson.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, ND.
