Kathy Foltz

March 21, 1945-May 4, 2025
Minot
Kathy Foltz, 80, Minot and formerly of Grand Forks and Crystal, ND died suddenly in her home on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
Kathleen Cheryl was born on March 21, 1945 in Seattle, WA to Vernon and Beulah (Bradshaw) Johnston. She was raised in Voltaire and Crystal ND, graduating from Crystal High School in 1963. She attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks where she received specialized training in secretarial studies. She then began working at Grand Forks Federal Savings & Loan as the secretary to the president.
It was while she was living in Grand Forks, that Kathy met James Foltz. They married on June 18, 1966 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Crystal, ND. They made their home in Grand Forks, until they moved to Minot in 1969 and started their family. Kathy became a full-time wife, mother and homemaker until her boys were in high school. Then, she was employed at the Eagles Club and ND Holdings in their offices. She retired in the early 2000’s.
Kathy was an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary, a homemakers club and bowling league. After many years of faithfully attending Mass with her family she converted to Catholicism in 1992. Kathy was very sociable and known for her love of having fun. She especially enjoyed reading and trips to the casino, but her passion was her family and friends.
Kathy prioritized attending the events of her children and grandchildren. She was fiercely proud of her grandkids, even to the point of good-naturedly harassing a local sportscaster when her granddaughter’s name was misspelled on the evening highlights. There was nothing that she would not do to help her friends and family. Kathy was the glue that kept family connected by practicing the lost art of calling just to check in and visit. She was viewed as a mother or grandmother figure for many.
Kathy’s loving family includes her husband of 58 years: James Foltz; sons: Scott (Rochelle) Foltz and Ryan Foltz (Jami Laducer) all of Minot; grandchildren: Harrison and Marley Foltz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Jim Johnston and Michelle Jesperson.
