Gladys Guenthner, 94, Minot and formerly of Hazen died on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at a Minot healthcare facility.
Gladys Erna was born on May 14,1931 in Hazen, N.D. to Ernest and Hilda (Weidner) Kruckenberg. She grew up on a farm north of Hazen and attended a country school before graduating from Hazen High School in 1949. As a young adult, she worked as a bookkeeper at Hazen Lumber and Paint.
On Nov. 17, 1950, Gladys married Marvin Guenthner at the American Lutheran Church in Hazen. They made their home on a farm north of Hazen for four years prior to moving into Hazen in 1955, during this time she was employed at the ASCS Office in Beulah.
From 1955-1958, she was employed at the Union State Bank in Beulah. In 1958, they relocated to Minot, where she began working at American State Bank–later known as Bremer Bank–and remained employed there until her retirement in 1999.
They made Minot their permanent home. Marvin passed away on Jan. 6, 2016. Gladys continued to live in Minot, residing most recently at the Wellington and, for the past two and a half years, at Pro-Health Home Care.
Gladys was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where she participated in the LWML and Sunday School serving as both treasurer and secretary, and served on the church council.
Her community involvement extended to the Sunnyside PTA, the Minot Swim Club, and she also served as treasurer for her son’s Boy Scout troop. Gladys had a love for crossword puzzles, a keen interest in computers, and a passion for gardening.
Gladys is survived by her son, Brett (Rae) Guenthner of Greeley, Colorado; her grandchildren, Adam and Jordan Guenthner; her sister-in-law, Rose Krukenberg of Minot; and several nieces and nephews, including Brenda Munson and Rochell Abrahamson, both of Minot.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings: Russ and Jack Krukenberg.
Funeral Service: Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church – Minot. A livestream of the service may be viewed by using the link in the website obituary.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens – Minot.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and ProHealth Home Care in Minot.
