Evelyn Schell, 100, Minot, formerly of Upham, died Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Trinity Hospital.

Evelyn Maurin Sampson was born Dec. 31, 1924, to Samuel and Inga (Thorud) Sampson on the family farm west of Upham.

She was raised and educated in the Upham area, attending country school Deep River to the 8th grade and to Upham High School. Evelyn worked on neighboring farms, helping with housework, the children, and outside chores.

On June 30, 1944, she married Melvin Schell of Antler. They were blessed with six children: Gladys, Harold, Glenn, Carolyn, Gary, and Larry. They lived in the Antler, Upham, Cutbank, Mont., Granville and Minot area.

Evelyn liked to read, crochet, and embroidery. She made many scrubbies, dishrags, and dish towels. She also enjoyed baking buns and making jelly for family and friends.

Her loving family includes: Sons, Glenn (Sandy) Schell, Gary Schell, and Larry Schell, all of Minot; Grandchildren, Correna Becker, Pierz, Minn., Chad (Tara) Schell, Colorado Springs, Colo.; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; daughters, Carolyn Schell and Gladys Haney; sons-in-law, Roger Haney; sons, Harold Schell and Gary St. Louis; grandson, Michael Haney; grandson-in-law, James “Jim” Becker; brothers, Chantlear “Chut” Sampson, and Samual Sampson; sisters, Agnes Schell, Ann Otto, and Jean Johnson, Harold Kutt.

Funeral: Saturday, May 24, 2025, 11 am. at New Hope Lutheran Church, Upham.

Interment: Bloomfield Cemetery, Upham.
